Product infoThe Water Wheel plant looks really special because every leaf ends in a snare. The snares themselves look like the snares of the Venus Fly Trap : a bear trap-like snare which snaps shut to catch an insect. The plant itself will grow to about 15 centimetres high. Its natural habitat is in Southern Europe, Asia, Australia and North Africa. The Aldrovanda vesiculosa lives in slightly acid water and poor in nutrients which makes it necessary for the plant to catch insects to supplement its diet. This Araflora plant is for decoration only not for consumption.
Plant careIt can be quite a challenge to cultivate an Aldrovanda vesiculosa plant. If the water quality is just right, the Aldrovanda will flourish and will prove a very special plant to grow. The plant does well in full sun preferring warm surroundings. You can cultivate this carnivorous plant in an aquarium at home or in a pond. Important for the Water Wheel plant is water with few nutrients and a low pH. The amount of nutrition in the water can be lowered by introducing some other water plants and by the use of rain-water. Water plants absorb the nutrients out of the water. On the other hand fish and other animals always discharge nutrients into the water, which leads to the quality of the water being less well-suited to the Water Wheel plant.
