Product info
Begonia fuchsioides ‘Red’ produces bell-shaped flowers that grow in groups at the end of trailing flower stems. Unlike many related species, its leaves are small but numerous. They are almond-shaped and grow on red stalks. Begonia fuchsioides is often sold in the Netherlands as Begonia fuchsioides var. miniata.
Plant care
Begonia fuchsioides ‘Red’ does not need a great deal of attention but requires plenty of light out of direct sunlight. A temperature of 20⁰C during the daytime and 15⁰C at night is sufficient but must not be any lower. It can be grown outdoors as long as the temperature remains above 15⁰C and the plant is not exposed to rain. The growing mixture can be kept moist when the plant is grown as a potted houseplant by placing a dish of lukewarm water under the pot. Any excess water must drain off effectively. Humidity needs to be 70% during the daytime and 90% at night. Fertilise Begonia fuchsioides ‘Red’ twice a month with plant food. A mixture of peat and perlite constitutes a good growing medium. See “Plant accessories” for information on this and other useful products. Begonia fuchsioides ’Red’ can be pruned when necessary.
