Plant care

In the wild, Begonia fissistyla grows in the mountains and is therefore used to lower temperatures. It does well at room temperature or in a cool terrarium. The temperature must always be higher than 5⁰C and lower than 25⁰C. Humidity must be around 70%. It is important that the growing medium does not dry out, for example by placing sphagnum moss round the plant’s stems. The medium must retain moisture but also drain easily. A mixture of peat and perlite is ideal for this purpose. See “Plant accessories” for more details. The plant can be given a moderate amount of fertiliser every two weeks. Begonia fissistyla can be pruned when growth becomes excessive.
