Specifications
Philodendron scandens 'Yellow'

Philodendron scandens, or Heartleaf Philodendron is a popular house plant that is extremely easy to grow. It often features as an exotic terrarium plant but can be grown as a trailer or a climber. A versatile plant with large, heart-shaped leaves, it can be grown in different conditions to suit all tastes. Philodendron scandens (Koch and Sello) is an attractive tropical leaf plant that grows in two stages in the wild: as a young plant, it climbs upwards against a tree; the mature plant has larger, different shaped leaves and occasionally produces spathes of white flowers.

Product info

Philodendron scandens originates in the tropical rain forests of Central and South America. An exotic plant that is easy to cultivate, it produces large, green, heart-shaped leaves. Lovers of reptiles and amphibians often use Philodendron scandens to create a natural environment in a terrarium. In the jungle, Philodendron lives as an epiphyte and climber, growing up to 20 metres tall. As a houseplant in the home, it will be considerably smaller. The young plant is heart-shaped and has a pointed end called the drip tip (see “Aroids: plants of the Arum family” by Deni Brown). Depending on how much light the plant receives, its shiny green leaves can turn a glossy yellow colour. Philodendron scandens was first described according to scientific criteria by Koch and Sello.
