Product info

Coelogyne fimbriata is found in evergreen lowland forests or primary montane forests . It has slender tapering pseudo bulbs roughly 6 centimetres long, each of which bears two leaves. The leaves can be up to 7 centimetres. In autumn, the plant produces a 5 centimetre flower stem on the most mature, recently formed pseudo bulb. The stem supports up to 3 flowers. These can be up to 3 centimetres in diameter, yellowish green in colour with brown veins on the lip. Under the right conditions, the flowers give off a delicate fragrance.

Plant care

This orchid requires different treatment in the summer and winter months. In spring and summer it thrives at moderate temperatures. In between waterings, the substrate may be allowed to dry out somewhat but must never become completely dry. If the plant is cultivated on a log or a piece of bark, it can be watered daily every morning, allowing the roots to dry out in the course of the day. In winter the substrate can be allowed to dry out completely between waterings and kept dry. The temperature may also be lower than in the summer months. When the orchid starts growing again in spring, the substrate can be more moist. Coelogyne fimbriata needs fertilising with half-strength orchid food once every two weeks in summer but not fed at all in winter. It can be grown in a pot with a substrate consisting of medium to coarse bark mixed with perlite and sphagnum moss as an alternative to a wooden log or piece of cork.
