Product info
Begonia josephii occurs in China, Bhutan and Nepal where it grows on rocks in mountainous areas above 2,500 metres. Its leaves have two unequal halves. It can grow to a height of 30 to 50 centimetres. A single plant has both male and female flowers with a cluster of yellow stamens or yellow pistils. Begonia josephii produces medium-sized, pale pink flowers.
Plant care
Because Begonia josephii naturally occurs high in the mountains it is capable of withstanding fairly cold conditions. It is quite happy at normal room temperature. However the temperature must not be allowed to drop below 5⁰C or be any higher than 25⁰C . Humidity should be around 70% and higher at night. The growing medium should be kept moist by adding lukewarm water. Moss around the base of the plant will help retain moisture. The best kind of potting mixture is one that stays moist and drains effectively, so a mixture of peat and perlite is highly recommended. See the section entitled ‘Plant accessories’ for more details . Begonia josephii can be fertilised with a moderate quantity of plant food once every two weeks. It can also be pruned without any adverse effect.
