The plant'S name was changed recently; the genus Haemanthus has had to relinquish this species to that of the Scadocus. The meaning of the scientifically generic name 'Scadoxus' is 'Glory in the dark' 'Ska' is Green for 'Dark' and 'Doxus' means 'Glory', while the appellative 'Multiflorus' comes from Latin and means 'Many-flowered'.

In summer the plant can be put outside, preferably in the shade, for example in that of a tree.
