Product infoPhilodendron elegans is native to the tropics of Brazil and Columbia. This rare philodendron is due to the strong lobbing of its leaves also known as the Skeleton Key Philodendron or the Finger-leaf philodendron. Officially Philodendron elegans is part of the Polytomium section of the Philodendron genus. Philodendron elegans is a slow growing Philodendron but overtime it can still become rather large in size. A nice feature of Philodendrons is that they purify the air surrounding them. Philodendron elegans is a climber so it will like some kind of support to grow on. Since Philodendron elegans is toxic when ingested, Araflora advises to keep it a safe place out of reach from little children and pets.
Plant carePhilodendron elegans has a temperature range of 10 to 30 degrees Celsius. During the growing season do not let the temperature drop below 15 degrees Celsius and during winter time the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. The plant will thrive with indirect sunlight, but avoid placing it in direct sunlight while this will discolour and harm the leaves. Araflora provides Philodendron elegans with a free-draining soil mixture that also has a sufficient moisture retention capacity. Watering can be done when the top soil layer is dry to touch. Philodendron elegans is rather sensitive to overwatering, so letting the soil dry out a bit is better than drenching the soil. Philodendron elegans likes a high humidity of 60% to 80%, therefore Araflora advices to place the pot in a pebble tray with a little bit of water and to mist the plant once or twice a week. Araflora advises to provide Philodendron elegans with some regular houseplant fertilizer once a week during the growing season. In order to stimulate leaf growth of Philodendron elegans, pruning can be done once every few months. Make sure to get cut off the damaged and diseased leaves (as soon as you spot them), you can also take away some healthy leaves to keep the foliage in the shape you like it.
