Product infoMasdevallia barlaeana originates from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador at altitudes between 2.200 and 3.100 meter. The slender leaves of the orchid have an average length of 15 centimetre. The flowers of Masdevallia barlaeana grow from a stem of 25 centimetre. The petals of the flower are fused with a dark pink or dark fuchsia colour. The ends of the petals are narrow.
Plant careMasdevallia barlaeana likes a semi-light spot, but should not be kept in direct sunlight. During winter, it should get slightly more light and less water. The ideal temperature for Masdevallia barlaeana is around 18⁰C. Don't let the temperature drop below 5⁰C or above 25⁰C. A humidity around 80% will stimulate its growth. For the best results, water the plant using rainwater or distilled water whenever the substrate dries slightly. The orchid cannot store water. In practice this will be watering three to five times a week. Proper airflow combined with a proper humidity will help prevent infections and disease. Orchid-mix will be a suitable substrate. You can also attach the plant to a piece of bark. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. Make sure moisture is able to drain from it. Fertilize with caution. Old flowers can be cut from the plant.
