Specifications
Begonia x Glowing embers
The flowers of this begonia are neither white nor pink but rather a fiery orange that almost seems to give off light. The plant produces them in enormous quantities. Begonia ‘Glowing embers’ is grown for its dramatic purple-green leaves as well as for its flowers. It can be cultivated in a terrarium or outside on a patio in summer. Begonia ‘Glowing embers’ does best in a hanging basket or pot as it tends to grow as a trailing plant.

Plant care

Begonia ‘Glowing embers’ needs little maintenance. In the winter months, it can be placed in direct sunlight as well as in partial shade. It can be grown outside as long as the temperature is above 15⁰C. The temperature must never be lower than 10⁰C or higher than 30⁰C. Humidity of 50% is sufficient as long as a dish containing a moderate amount of water is placed under the pot. Surrounding the plant with sphagnum moss or other water-absorbent material is a good way of retaining the necessary moisture. Fertilise once or twice a month. Begonia ‘Glowing embers’ needs a growing mixture that retains water but at the same time drains easily. A mixture of peat and perlite is ideal for this purpose. See “Plant accessories” for more information. If growth becomes excessive, the plant can be pruned.
