They obtain nutrients from their immediate environment, including insects and spiders which form a large part of their prey.
Plant careDionaea muscipula 'Jumbo' likes plenty of light. The more sunlight it receives, the more vibrant its colours become. It needs plenty of water containing little or no calcium, preferably rain water, osmosis water, distilled water or demineralised water. The ideal growing medium is nutritionally poor such as 50% sphagnum and 50% perlite or three equal parts of peat, orchid bark and sphagnum.
