Begonia69
Specifications
Begonia nigritarum
This beautiful small species can be found in the tropical forests of South-east Asia. Begonia nigritarum has green leaves with red accents. The leaves have light, almost turquoise spots, which make parts of them seem transparent. There are few types of begonia whose flowers are as numerous. This is an ideal species to add colour to any terrarium.

Plant care

Begonia nigritarum is easy to care for. It needs to be positioned in partial shade. The best temperature is between 22⁰C and 25⁰C but certainly no lower than 10⁰C or higher than 30⁰C. Humidity should be 70% during the daytime and 90% at night. The growing medium must be kept permanently moist, for example by placing sphagnum moss round the base of the plant. Fertilise by adding plant food to the water once or twice a month. If Begonia nigritarum is grown in a terrarium, good air circulation will help prevent disease and infection. The best kind of potting mix consists of peat plus another substrate such as perlite. Go to ‘Plant accessories’ for details of this and other useful products. If Begonia nigritarum is in danger of becoming too big, it can be pruned without any adverse effect. You can also remove the stems, so the plant retains a rosette of leaves.
