CarniNep105a
Specifications
Nepenthes talangensis 'starter'
This is a threatened tropical pitcher plant that is endemic to Mount Talang on the island of Sumatra. At one time it was assumed that this species only grew above 2,500 metres but it has is now known to grow at elevations above 1,800 metres. The mottled yellow and red pitchers produce an extremely thick nectar liquid with which they catch and digest their prey. A young plant is ideal for novice growers because of its small size and ease of cultivation.

Plant care

As with other Nepenthes species, Nepenthes talangensis requires a great deal of sunlight, but should not be positioned in full sun or it will become dehydrated. It should be given rainwater or distilled water regularly to ensure that it stays moist and sprayed with water at regular intervals. The medium and pot must ensure effective drainage to prevent the roots from rotting. The best temperature to cultivate this species is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, certainly no higher than 30 degrees. The night-time temperature needs to be around 10 degrees Celsius. If the plant becomes too big, it can be pruned. The best growing medium is neutral to slightly acidic peat. No additional feeding is required.
