Carniutr59
Specifications
Utricularia mannii
The flowers of this carnivorous bladderwort are bright yellow and have a strange shape. Their elongated appearance makes Utricularia mannii look like someone pulled a bit too hard on the wrong end of it. In the wild you can find this species on the west coast of Africa, where it grows upon other plants in a tropical environment. This makes it perfect for a terrarium!

Product info

Utricularia mannii is mainly widespread in Cameroon and Nigeria, where it resides in humid forests at altitudes between 500 and 2.100 meters. The flowers are striking. Long and yellow, usually growing in pairs from a long and thin flower stalk protruding from the mossy foliage. The almost transparent leaves of Utricularia mannii look like bean sprouts and have a jagged edge. This carnivorous species catches its tiny prey by beaker shaped traps. The flowers are narrow and long with a yellow colour and a red dot in the middle. One plant can carry ten flowers at a time. Utricularia mannii is a perennial species.

Plant care

Utricularia mannii offers a bit of a challenge in care compared to other bladderwort. But if you follow a few rules, this carnivore will flourish. A high humidity is important. You can keep it on the right level by using a terrarium or a bell jar. Don't let the plant get too moist though. Utricularia mannii needs a lot of light, so an open spot is preferred. A temperature of 24⁰C to 25⁰C is preferred during the day and around 16⁰C at night. A mixture of peat moss and perlite or pumice will serve as a suitable substrate. The substrate should be kept slightly moist using rainwater or distilled water. Utricularia mannii doesn't need prey to survive, so you won't have to bother with creepy crawly insects!
