Product infoUtricularia minutissima ‘Gunung Tahan’ has quite an extraordinary habitat. It grows on top of the highest mountain on the Malay Peninsula in what is considered to be the oldest rainforest in the world. At this miraculous place it gives color to the wet soil with its lilac flowers. The flowers which can bloom in bundles of more than ten at a time grow on tall, somewhat curled stems. Utricularia minutissima ‘Gunung Tahan’ has a green carpet of tightly packet leaves under which the traps the plant uses to catch its prey are hidden.
Plant careUtricularia minutissima ‘Gunung Tahan’ needs a relatively light spot, but direct sunlight has to be avoided to minimize the chance of drying out. A high humidity of 80% is optimal and a temperature of 25⁰C for this species, since it occurs in a tropical mountainous area. A mix of perlite an peat makes an ideal substrate. We offer these substrates and other necessities in our section ‘plant accessories’. This mixture has to be kept moist at all times, so water the carnivore at least twice a week. Using rain- or demineralized is recommended to prevent too many nutrients from building up in the soil. Cover the leaves in a layer of water from time to time, but make sure excess water can flow away in order to prevent diseases. It’s possible to grow Utricularia minutissima ‘Gunung Tahan’ under a glass or plastic bell. However, make sure fresh air can reach the plant regularly in that case.
