Product infoPhilodendron pteromischum is one of the smallest species from the genus Philodendron. This species grows naturally in Central America. Similar to other species from this genus, it is a half epiphytic plant. The species sprouts on the forest floor where it grows towards trees to use as support. Philodendron pteromischum has bright green, narrow egg-shaped leaves that grow from a central rhizome. In between the leaves it produces aerial roots where the plant anchors itself against trees. This plant rarely flowers. The inflorescence looks comparable to other inflorescences within this genus and is not that extraordinary. Propagation of this plant is mostly done by cuttings. Let cuttings root in sphagnum moss or in water.
Plant carePhilodendron pteromischum grows in warm, tropical forests. This species is mostly grown in terraria or in warm greenhouses. The optimal temperature for this species is between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius. Make sure that humidity does not drop below 70%. This species prefers indirect light and/or direct sunshine, only in the morning. Shade this plant against mid-day and direct sunlight in summer as the leaves could burn. Frequent misting of the leaves favors this species. Because of the climbing growth habit, make sure this plant has some structural support especially at older age. Place this plant in a humus rich, water retentive soil. Make sure that the soil never dries out but prevent it from becoming soggy. Fertilize this plant with nutrients for green plants, half the recommended strength on a monthly basis.
