Product infoCalanthe vestita var. rubra is found in Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. In contrast to the white lip of the 'standard' variety, this variation has a pink color, making this orchid extra attractive and popular. The orchid has a thicker leaf base from which long leaves emerge. A 90 cm flower stem with +/- 10 flowers extends from the base. The flowers are hidden under light green bract at the beginning of their development. This gives the end of the flower stem a distinct appearance.

The optimum temperature for Calanthe vestita var. rubra is around 25⁰C.The humidity should be around 80%. A small increase in humidity at night promotes the production of flowers. You can use orchid mix as a substrate. You can find these and other growing supplies under our 'Plant accessories' section. Fertilize the orchid in the spring and summer to give the bulb a good chance to grow. Then taper off in the fall until the leaves begin to fall. In winter, the orchid goes into a resting phase. It will then lose its leaves, and grow inflorescence. You can cut dead flowers from the plant.
