Product info
Begonia moyesii has beautiful dark green shiny leaves that resemble those of a savoy cabbage. They have red veins and chestnut brown undersides. Begonia moyesii tends to develop into a shrub roughly 50 centimetres tall. Its flowers have five tepals and a cluster of striking yellow stamens or pistils in the centre.
Plant care
Begonia moyesii is best kept in a terrarium but it can also be cultivated as a house plant, provided the temperature is around 22⁰C with 70% humidity. It needs shade or partial shade and good air circulation to prevent it being affected by pests and disease. The temperature should never be lower than 10⁰C or higher than 30⁰C. The growing medium must not be allowed to dry out. Moss around the base is a good way of retaining moisture. A mixture of peat and perlite will ensure that water is retained but will still ensure good drainage. Make sure the soil does not dry out. You can add potting compound to your plant order in the section entitled “Plant accessories”” Fertilising twice a month will help the plant grow more quickly but if Begonia moyesii seems to be growing excessively, it can be pruned.
