The two bromeliads Brocchinia reducta and Brocchinia hechtioides are carnivorous plants and grow on the sandy plains of Venezuela. These plants form a vertical container by holding their leaves closely together. These plants are yellow, a colour very attractive to insects. Another group of the Bromeliaceae has one species that is carnivorous, Catopsis berteroniana. Insects are attracted by the strong scent of honey that this plant produces and are captured and digested in the same way as the earlier described bromeliads.  For additional information about the cultivation and care of
